Will the Car2PC digital interface provide access to the NMEA GPS data output from the in-dash GPS unit?

I have the Jeep RB1 (Alpine) factory installed GPS, and am installing two different radios that can use GPS NMEA data (Uniden BCT15 scanner and a ham rig that does APRS). It seems foolish to add another GPS receiver to the car when I already have one. The trick is accessing the NMEA data. I have yet to find a cable or device to connect to the RB1. The Car2PC seems pretty close, but I can't find anything in the specs that indicate whether GPS NMEA is output.

The RB1 does not normally output any GPS data.

Although we can't be sure if there's a way to query it over the VPW bus.

How much do you have to invest in a GPS after intial purchase? I want to buy a GPS and the intial cost isn't a problem for me. But are there a lot of "upkeep costs" like buying updates and maps and such. Is there a GPS out there that is a one-time cost deal with free upgrades?
