No matter what I do, Windows only detects the car2pc adapter as a USB device, and not allow me to configure a COM port to it. I tried uninstalling drivers, but no go. Can you provide the correct installation steps? BTW - I have the old style BMW adapter with the upgraded firmware for text display on the MID. Thanks, RRG

I pointed to the VCP folder , loaded the drivers but the device is still showing up under USB devices. I'm not sure if this is correct, however I don't see any option to configure it as a COM device. Under driver details, it shows the driver files as follows: FTD2XX.SYS, FTD2XX.DLL, FTD2XXUN.INI and FTDUNIN.EXE. Am I doing something wrong or missing a step? Thanks

After deleting all references to the adapter, I plugged it back in and Windows prompted me for the driver path. I pointed to the vcp_win32_car2pc folder, and it picked up the adapter. It did not give me the option for VCP or USB, it just installed the USB driver. Any other suggestions? Thanks

I will choose the driver to install"and pointed to FTDIPORTCAR2PC.INF. Windows responds with this message: "The specified location does not contain information about your hardware." I also tried FTDICAR2PC.INF with the same message. If I select FTDIPORT.INF, it loads up the USB driver fine. I noticed when the adapter is plugged in, it is detected as a USB <=> BMW HU device, even if no drivers are loaded. Could this be a function of to older style adapter? Thanks

Posted: Tue Aug 14, 2007 7:25 pm    Post subject: going to try rebuild Jbors, I'm going to do a fresh install of XP and see if I can get the VCP drivers to work. The reason I want to get this working is so I can use the unit to address the ibus using the ibuscomm.exe. I'm assuming that if the car2pc adapter is mapped as a COM port, it will function the same as this ibus device http://www.reslers.de/. Again, I have the old style bmw ibus adapter with the upgraded firmware so I can display mp3 text on the radio. Any tips before I proceed? Thanks, RRG

In the vcp_win32_car2pc folder I downloaded from this site, there are a 4 inf files, of which 2 seem to pertain to the car2pc adapter. Which is the correct inf file for the device - FTDIPORTCAR2PC.INF or FTDICAR2PC.INF? Thanks, RRG
