|
|
Guys,
I'm almost finished developing interface for the new Chrysler OEM radios ( Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep ). The boards will be hear in about 1 month ( mid June ) and I'd like to ask you to participate in beta testing for these units.
What is it ?
CAR2PC interface allows PC to "communicate" with the stock headunit.
It will play sound through the stock speakers, you will get control over your digital data and can display track information on your stock display.
You will be able to assign any program/action on your PC when HU buttons are pressed.
Why ?
CAR2PC allows you to use your CarPC in a blind fashion without even using the touchscreen saving you time and money for installation. You still can have touchscreen but just use it for visual things like GPS or search only.
You can place PC anywhere you want and "talk" to it from the very ergonomic and slick headunit keybord.
Can I see the demo ?
See the demo for VW Car2PC adapter: movie on my test bench (3Mb).
Which frontend can use it ?
Car2PC adapter has support for WinAmp, Windows Media Player, MWI and RR
Here you can download these plugins/links:
For all interested the CAR2PC interface library for Windows/Linux available in sf.net CVS. Just ask me for it
Which HU it supports ?
Chrysler 300M 2002-2004
Chrysler 2002-2005 Concord
Chrysler 2002-2004 LHS
Chrysler 2003-2005 Pacifica
Chrysler 2002-2005 PT Cruiser (NOT compatible w/6-disc in-dash changers)
Chrysler 2002-2005 Sebring
Chrysler 2002-2005 Town & Country
Chrysler 2002-2004 Voyager
Dodge Caravan 2002-2005
Dodge Dakota 2002-2004
Dodge Durango 2002-2003 (NOT compatible w/6-disc in-dash changers)
Dodge Intrepid 2002-2005
Dodge Neon 2001-2005
Dodge Ram 1500 2002-2005
Dodge Stratus 2002-2005
Jeep Grand Cherokee 2002-2004
Jeep Liberty 2002-2005
Jeep Wrangler 2002-2005
How to install ?
3 steps only:
1. Place laptop, car PC or even Mac anywhere in a car. Secure and power it.
2. Attach the adapter to your stock headunit (or CD changer cable in the trunk) and PC. Most original harness are included !
3. Run the PC and get the sound from it on your speakers instantly after you switch you HU in CD changer mode !
Can it serve as a AUX adapter ?
Yes it can. You can connect your favourite MP3 player directly to your car's HU !
What it look like ?
I decided to make board looking good along with the enсlosure. Pics here:
How to get it ?
It is available only for beta testing purpose. Link to follow. Please post your car make in this thread so I can get back to you when interface is ready.
Current status ?
Beta testing is not yet started.
Let me know if you have any questions or concerns,
Dmitry/

Hello, This is EXACTLY what I have been looking for. I was this close -->||<-- to going through all the work of trying to pin/code this myself!
I have a '05 Grand Caravan with the RB1 head unit and steering wheel controls. I am building a carpc and almost bought the PIE CHRY02-AUX adaptor until I came across this post!
Even if I can't beta test this baby, I will wait until it is released!!! Thanks for working on this!! |

I have my Linux Jeeputer up and running but the audio is hack'd in and needs a good solution like this. If I understand this right, it will scroll MP3 metadata in the factory head unit? I have a 2005 Jeep Wrangler with the in dash CD and option for changer. I am willing to beta test anytime. |

Thank you all who replied here. I hope we can get samples of such an interface in 2-3 weeks. Once I get first boards, I'll let you know. |

I noticed my car is not in the list, but I think it should be of the correct type.
It is a 2001 Dodge Neon R/T with an AM/FM Cassette and in-dash 4-disc CD changer. Only two of the changer's 4 positions still work flawlessly, so I have built a Car PC with the original intention of replacing the entire sound system.
I would prefer this, as it would take a lot less effort than re-engineering major portions of my dash like I was expecting that I would have to do. _________________ Darryl D Stumpf |

The unit is the newer style with a curved face and rounded corners. I captured a digital image of the stereo, but I am not currently able to publicly post it anywhere. I checked the Dodge website and found the following image there.
My unit is similiar (same shape) though without the CD in the head-unit and an additional slider for Mid-range. Bottom line is that the one pictured would interchange with the one in my car without any problem.
