Hi all,
The full Linux version of Car2PC Linux distro is available here:
http://indashpc.org/downloads/software/car2linux.html
Here you can find installation instructions for the VIA EPIA-M board.
The distro is designated to work with no screen or keyboard and only uses your HU through Car2PC adapter to control all functions.
I'll name its features:
- 11 MB Linux distro for Epia-M platform only
- Full support for i18n and unicode
- 10 secs boot time on Linux
- Removable storages detection
- Plays audio files
- Plays video files
- Automatic update from the removable storage( Linux only )
- Builds meta db for songs automatically upon removable media insertion
- Provides voice feedback on every action it does
- Simple plugin expandable
After it starts, you can use keyboard or your car stereo/steering wheel buttons to control the app.
Here is the list of keys: Code: | Keyboard:
- left arrow, right arrow - scroll through selection
- 1, 2, enter - enter selection
- 6, esc, backspace - exit selection 1 level up
- r - set random playing
- , . - seek through the file ( fast forward, fast backward )
Car Stereo:
- <, > - scroll through selection
- 1, 2 - enter selection ( 2 plays everything from the current selection. eg the whole genre )
- 6 - exit selection 1 level up
- MIX - set random playing
- << >> - seek through the file ( fast forward, fast backward ) |

Hello jbors,
Is this distro still alive? I could't find too much information regarding it. I've tried to install it but I've got a problems, nothing is workin' but a restarting application which putting me in to the linux console. And the voice prompts are working, but at the backgroung I'm hear a strange noise.
Can you help me to configure this application? Of course if there is anything to configure. Would be good to have this distro working on my BMW 520i 98 with the stock MID HU and your car2pc interface.
My hardware:
Via Epia M10000
RAM 512MB
Disk on Module IDE 1GB
M1-ATX Power Supply
Thank you for a help and Happy New Year!

I have been following your comments on the Car2PC Linux distro too, but it all seems to have dried up. Any news? |

The project stopped as I have very little time for it now, but I still have plans to make something like this in the future. |

Shame. However, seeing what you are doing elsewhere on this forum I totally understand your predicament.
Best of luck, and thanks for the feedback. |

I cannot get libusbhu to work with car2pc adapter.
I downloaded latest version of libftdi and installed, however example programs from that source don't work either. There's one that finds all of ftdi devices, and it does not find the adapter.
I compiled my kernel with (M) ftdi_sio support, and I can see the device in proc/bus/usb/devices, so I'm sure everything works fine to this point. My question is if libftdi needs kernel module to be loaded to work? I assume you went through whole thing already.
Thanks
