Hi-

I am new to this and need advice before I waste any money.

My PC will be going into an offroad vehicle primarily for the navigation features, along with being able to keep up with blogs and such as we go along our adventures. With the current selection of in-dash navigation systems I am limited to "street only" navigation, thus the car PC option is a better choice!

So, I need advice on what to get that will be able to handle pretty extreme conditions, such as vibrations, and hard ups and down (over rocks). I also need the system to be camera friendly, not only the digital camera, but rear view, under body (axle cam's) and front camera inputs.

My ideal set up would survive a long off road trip (such as around Alaska, or a trip around Baja) with out repairs... Because it might be exposed to heavy dust situations, I am unsure of whether or not a fan is a good idea!

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I am pretty well set on on the software and GPS hardware, but just need a few pointers in the right direction for the rest!

Thanks,
Wil

I would suggest fanless PC in spacy or heat tubed enclosure.
Also no hard drives. Use IDE 2-4 GB flash drives in read only mode.
Windows XP can be slimmed down leaving 3.5 Gb for maps and everything else.
Do not forget to use XP with no pagefile to avoid writing to flash too often.
Rear camera can go directly to monitor unless you want to record it.
