I currently have an acura (honda) early 98 headunit (din type cd changer plug) with a honda to m-bus cable and my recently bought car2pc adapter. I don't have a computer hooked up to it yet. In the meantime, I'd like to be able to listen to my portable mp3 cd player. After using it for a few days, the car2pc adapter isn't recognized consistently by the head unit any more.

Here's what I have done so far:

I have visually inspected the honda to m-bus cable. It looks like it is seated firmly in the head unit. I can't get my hand in there to tell for certain, I'll have to disassemble my console to get to it.

Sometimes (maybe 1 in 4 times) if I unplug the car2pc from the honda-mbus cable and plug it back in it works.

Turning the head unit off and on doesn't seem to make the car2pc adapter work again. However, sometimes this makes it stop working and I get "E-EE" on the head unit.

Is there anything else I might be doing wrong, or do I have a broken car2pc adapter?

Thanks!

Very interesting.
Some questions first.
1. Did you ever had a CD changer ? Did it work fine all the time ?
2. Did adapter work fine for couple of days straight ?

1. Never had a changer. However, I do have a cassette that plugs into the head unit via the cd changer socket. So, actually, here's what my setup looks like:

car2pc -> honda-mbus adapter -> cassette player -> cd head unit.

The cassette player has worked consistently since 98.

2. After installing it, I tested it a bit. Turned the stereo on and off a few times. Played music for a few minutes. Compared the sound to the cd player in the headunit. I didn't really use it after that until I got around to buying a car adapter for my mp3 cd player.

Ok, after writing this, I think taking apart my console again and making sure the cable is fully seated probably wouldn't be a bad thing. I could also try and put the adapter directly into the headunit, bypassing the cassette.

Do you have any other suggestions to try when I take apart my dash?

Thanks.

Hmm,
Not sure I got the setup right. Why can't you just plug the car2pc adapter directly into cd headunit ? The more components you have in a setup, the harder it gets in terms of stability and overal quality.

Ok, I took the dash apart and took the cassette player out of the loop.

The configuration is now:
car2pc -> honda-mbus adapter -> cd head unit.

Initial testing seemed to work, I'll see how it goes over the week.

Oh, it seems much simpler now. Great. Let me know how it goes...

It has been solid since this weekend. I think hat eliminates my hon-alp cable, the head unit, and the car2pc adapter. At this point, I think it's either the interaction between the optional cassette player and the car2pc, the cassette player or a loose connection. I'll probably hook it up with the cassette 2 weekends from now.

Thanks.
