Hi,

I have recently received the GromAudio USB adapter and I have some problems with my install.

I want also to add, that currently I use another adapter so named XCarLink or some of it clones.
This adaptor is pretty well but have some limitation compared to GromAudio adapter.
For example maximal number of files is limited to 512, some problems with Bluetooth and etc..
I have added this info in order to make clear that CD changer interface on my car stereo work well.

During the install I have used the Y-shaped cable in order to connect the plug with 2 wires that was originally plugged into CD changer plug.
I have used the same scheme of the connection also for XCarLink installation.
Just to make clear, I am not trying to connect both devices. I have removed XCarLink and trying to connect Grom Audio.

Batch number of my device is #836g-13-102010.
The device was shipped with firmware version 44.
I have successfully updated the FW to version 45. I see the FW number (track number) when I remove all devices from Grom Adapter

After update, as before the update, Grom USB hangs up from time to time.
I will try to describe the symptoms:
1. After connecting the device and switching on the engine switch I am able to play music from USB. But when I change mode from CD to FM number of times Grom USB suddenly became not available. My CD also became not available. Turing off the engine switch does not helps, after turning on the engine switch I can use my CD, but not Grom USB. The only way to see Grom USB again it to remove and reconnect the main power plug (white).
2. Another problem happens when I promptly switch tracks and disk on my radio. After pressing 10-20 times the music playback stops. Sometimes removing the USB helps to get playback back, but sometimes only removing the main plug resolves the problem.

I have posted the same question to support, but may be someone here have the same issue and can suggest some solutions...

Hi,

Thank you very match for posting the last FW.
I have flashed it today, but I still have the same problems.

I can switch from changer mode to FM mode only 3-4 times before the device get stuck...
After device get stuck I can't use my CD and GROM.
When I turn on power I see DiskOnKey lights flashing a few times.
Pressing on CD buttons do nothing I still in FM mode.
Pressing on FM/AM button works and cycles the bands FM-FM1...AM.

What can I do now ?
Can I somehow help you to debug it ?

For example I can force diagnostic mode on my CD player and share the info.
Also I can bring my player to lab and save the logs.
I am chip designer in real life, and I have a lot of experience in chip bring ups...
May be there is some ICE/JTAG device that can be used to debug the hang ups ?

In any case any info will be really appreciated....

I just wrote in to support recently with some of the same issues.

1) Switching tracks/discs randomly caused it to stop being able to play. Was able to correct by doing the FM/CD "mode" switch to make it announce USB again.

2) Sometime when starting the car, GROM does not play until I do the FM/CD mode switch and make it announce USB.

Thankfully I have not encountered any situations recently that forced me to disconnect the harness to make it work again.

Yes after doing more testing V46 does not work reliable yet. We are still testing it. Should take 1 more week, for now just use V44. Will post V46 here later.

Is there any difference in the file linked here when you posted it and the file that eventually got posted on the public firmware page? Just asking because I downloaded it before it appeared on the page.

I would suggest downloading from the site. There was another small change for BT dongle after I posted it here

Mine still got stuck changing modes (cycling through AM/FM/CD etc.) when it got back to CD2 (grom) it wouldn't play until I pressed fm, cd, disc up to make it announce "USB" through the speakers then it worked again.

I think it got stuck once when I turned the ignition on as well, had to do the same thing to make it announce USB to get it going in that case as well.

Really frustrating ongoing problem but it seems to be happening at least less than it used to be now.

Since the problem seems to at least seem to partially be related to the unit getting confused about what "mode" it's in, and I only use USB mode, I had previously asked support to implement a config file setting that will disable all other modes completely but I suppose it never happened.

I would like the ability to force the unit to ONLY always be in USB mode, would that help at all?

Any updates on this?
Just got my Grom and seem to be having the same problems.
Changing to FM makes it impossible to go back to GROM
