Hi Guys,

Just got my firmware chip for the bmw adapter (old style with non removeable wiring) and installed it.

Everything seems to work as before (steering wheel+mid buttons work) but I can't seem to get the text display to work Sad

So after checking the forum I downloaded the "grom console" and ran it on the pc. In the dos window I get the message "FTD some stuff here HU not found" press any key to close the program." So I'm kinda stuck there Evil or Very Mad

Do I need something like VCF or whatever ibus program to run the console?

I removed all drivers/plugin from the system, rebooted, reinstalled. Ran the console with & without winamp running, with & without adapter plugged in.

Please help, it's kinda stupid having installed firmware 3 but unable to use the features.

Thanks

Waterlift

PS: you can use the adapter with a DSP system, but the sound will have to come thru a S/PDIF line on your soundcard @ 44.1 Khz directly from the amplifier.
specs for cable:
cable type: coax RG134 (I think it's 75 ohm)
bmw dsp amp connector: SMB connector
sound card S/PDIF connector: standard cinch plug

Does WinAmp was playing when you ran grom_console ?
Make sure the system see the adapter before trying to run WinAmp or grom_cosole.
The best way is to go to Device Manager and look for Serial Port. It should be CAR2PC Serial Port present.

Hi Jbors,

I tried it with winamp playing and without.

The drivers I installed:
http://car2pc.com/downloads/ftdi_win32_car2pc.zip
http://car2pc.com/downloads/winamp_plugin.html
http://car2pc.com/downloads/gen_hump3_1_7_3.exe

grom console: http://car2pc.com/downloads/grom_console_v1.4.zip
vcp: http://car2pc.com/downloads/vcp_win32_car2pc.zip

In the device manager the HU only shows up in USB devices, there is no serial port (COMx) present using the standard drivers.
Also tried to install the VCP drivers but XP doesn't see the VCP drivers when doing the "add new hardware" thing after I removed the USB drivers.

I'm using the latest winamp version and the plugin shows the correct firmware version.

Plz help before I go nuts with this thing :p

Here are some screenshots:
USB view: here you see that the PID's are different then they are in the INF files (0xABD0)

VCP drivers: as you can see the name of the USB device is kinda scrambled up and a serial port is indeed present now (I edited the INF files to change the PID but probably made a mistake somewhere)

FTP drivers: the original drivers are used here but then again I can't see the serial port coz it isn't created.

I see that WinAmp picks up the firmware version correctly (1.3). So PC see the adapter just fine right ?
What happens when you select Text Enable ?

Adapter performs all regular functions like it did with old firmware it just doesn't display text Sad and I can't get ibus access because VCP doesn't work, otherwise I could check the BMW display nr is correct in the plugin.
Nothing changes when turning text on/off, tried toggling all possible variations in the plugin but no luck there.

Can you check the VCP drivers so the INF's have the correct PID's?

Thanks

I'll try the text zones later today.

Can you help me out with the VCP drivers coz I really would like to do some ibus tweaking myself Wink

Thanks
