Hello all,
I just tried Roadster, finally after few hacks I was able to compile it, and actually the project looks really promising. It generates maps in same style as google's maps does. It uses tiger data, and works pretty fast on 1GHz machine. It is in early develpoment state, and few minor things are to be completed. There's one major problem, routing is not implemented yet.
Jbors, did you try this yet? I think, that it is not easy to get this ported to current pycar project, but so far it works, and at least shows a map with current position (from gps), and the map is generated dynamically.
Here's one of screenshots (from roadster project):

I was able to compile this under debian(unstable) with xorg, but so far didn't try to compile it with directfb. Cairo component seems to be little complicated (dependencies), in near future I should be able to get it to work under directfb.
Anyway, I'm really looking for ideas for routing portion of project, any help would be appreciated.
