Please follow these simple steps:
1. Make sure you have USB2P unit (841-xx, 842-xx, 843-xx)
2. Make sure to update to the latest firmware here:
http://www.gromaudio.com/software-usb2.html
3. After the update, check the version:
To check FW version installed do the following:
a. Switch to GROM mode (CDC or SAT) with USB stick attached
b. Take the USB stick out
c. Track number is the firmware version
4. Download config file and place it on a stick. Attach stick to the GROM unit once. Settings will be saved until the next power reset of the unit.
5. Attach your phone to the GROM box and start any audio app while GROM is active.

Hi all,

NOTE: Although the arrows in the picture in the first post of this thread point the correct pins, these are not numbered 6 and 10, but 16 and 20. This was confirmed by the GROM helpdesk. The numbers are imprinted on the back of the connector.

If you are just as me and don't want to open the GROM box, and have trouble connecting the pins outside the box, you could do the following.

See attachment.

- Buy an atx extension cable. It cost me € 6 (US$ .
- Cut cables 16 and 20 in half.
- Re-connect the two parts of cable 20 again, together with the part of cable 16 (the part that is connect to the male connector, the one you put into the box). I used a lustre terminal for this. Pins 16 and 20 are now connected.
- As I didn't want a loose cable, I put the other half of cable 16 in an empty slot of the lustre terminal.[/quote]

Thanks, i have found it, update the box and wow, it works!

Now i have to test, how it works. Until now i only used the usb-port and cd-emulation...
Is a description of the SAT-Mode avaliable?

Thanks!

Hi,

I still prefer the way it is in usb mode (comparing to the previous cd mode). It allows me to change tracks with the wheel controls and changing folders is done with just 3 steps (turn knob right, press next/last, turn knob left). In Cd mode you had 5 steps...
The way you suggest, it's pretty nice too, apart from the fact that I'd loose the so much expected id3 tags. but if it was available one other button, it could be nice...

I do think, though, that a couple of improvments can be done (hear me Jbors? ):

1- tags/folder name in folder mode is essential
2- when folder reahes its end, go to the next folder
3- in random mode, also go to tracks in other folders randomly

... and if you could allow us to presonalize at ones taste with a simple batch file in the root of the usb pen, that would be super.

...my two cents.

Yes the MDC version has its own limitations.
I think your way of navigation has its own benefits but only on iPod.
On USB we have no list of artists/albums. I will check it we can do that though.

Hi,

I will install the cd-emulation version to see if you're right. Actually, I think I have forgotten how it worked, as I mainly used the aux input at that stage. But that caused some noise and - I used to connect my smartphone - it is not very safe to navigate on a touchscreen while driving...

I thought of a better way to browse through the folders. I think I'd prefer the following:

- turn the middle know > browse through songs ('song mode')
- press the middle knob > activate 'folder mode' (md02)
- turn the middle in folder mode > browse through folders
- press the middle knob again> activate song mode (md01) (and start playing songs in the selected folder)

In folder mode, if the user does not do anything for let's say 5 seconds, go back to song mode.

I wonder if that is possible. I have no idea what you can be done when emulating a MD player.

Currently, pressing the middle knob shows the mp3 tags, so I assume if my suggestion is followed, that functionality must be assigned to other buttons.

I think I read on the GROM site that you can change the function of the radio equipment by editing a configuration file. I would love it if I could
change the operation of the buttons of my radio, even if the default would still be the solution you provide now. But I realize it is probably not that easy.

Hi,

I managed to install version 3 after a correction made in the firmware (it had a conflit with my usb pen, that was promptly sorted thanks to gromaudio prompt reply).

As you, human403, I too miss the folder name and have spoken here about it. Nevertheless, I don't miss the cdchanger system of navigation at all. with the mdchanger system it is faster and easier to change folders... The problem is for you to get used to it after using the old method for a while.

I've spoke to gromaudio tech support about it and they told me folder names would be condidered in the next firmware... Let's just hope it doesn't take too long.

After modifying the cable, and installing version 3 of the software, I do see tags now, but only if I push the middle button, as forum member ccosta describes: once for the cd title, twice for the song title.

However, I can't see the folder names. Actually, I am not interested in the mp3 tags: it's the folder names that I wanted, because I don't want to have to remember which music is in which folder. Generally speaking, I recognize the music when I hear it and don't need to see the title.....

Does the current version of the MD software support showing these folder names or not? If not, I can just as well go back to Cd-changer emulation as this had a much smoother way of navigating through the folders.
